Tony Parker
I’m 64 this year (2017). I moved to Charfield with my wife and 2 children some 25 years ago, in an attempt to give them the more rural village life that I experience during my younger years, growing up as I did in Winterbourn Down.
I completed an apprenticeship at Rolls Royce, then joined the merchant navy and disappeared around the world for 15 years.
Eventually it was decided that I needed to get a “proper job” so as not to miss the excitement of seeing the children growing up.
I took the opportunity of early retirement in 2015. And now spend my time supporting my 2 children who are now both married and remain living in area. We have a number of dogs and horses that keep my days full. I also have a couple of motor bikes that I struggle to find the time for at the moment.
What can I bring to the table?
Perhaps that’s not for me to determine.
I do have a relatively old, level, experienced head on my shoulders. A strong sense of community and a deep routed fondness for the area in which I am privileged to live. A belief that we are here for a limited amount of time and as such are only custodians of the area in which we live for that time, with a responsibility to maintain and conserve for future generations, both locally and in general.
My last job before retiring was as corporate client manager for the U.K. section of a global business so I guess I have some skills that may be of use. I also tend to be quite “hands on” when it comes to projects.
