The Parish Council has today received notice of the South Gloucestershire Council Consulation on a new railway station for Charfield. Key text is shown below, and the whole text is available in the PDF document linked here.

“We are developing preliminary plans for a new station at Charfield to support sustainable travel to and from the village and surrounding area. A new station will also improve access to jobs, education and a wider variety of services and facilities and help mitigate some of the impacts of recent development in the area.”

“The 12-week consultation will start on Tuesday 19 October 2021 and close on Monday 10 January 2022.”

“During the consultation period we will host a series of public drop-in events in Charfield and the surrounding area where you will be able to learn more about the proposals. Council officers and representatives from Network Rail will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. The same information will be available at each event.”

“The events are being held on the following dates:

Monday 8 November 3pm to 7pm at Wotton Town Hall, Market Street, Wotton-under-Edge.

Wednesday 10 November 2pm to 5.30pm at Charfield Memorial Hall, Wotton Road, Charfield.

Saturday 13 November 10.30am to 2.30pm at Charfield Memorial Hall, Wotton Road, Charfield.”

Your Parish Council wants to ensure everyone in the village is fully informed, and also how we should best represent your views. As well as any communication South Gloucestershire might send you, we intend to write to every household asking for a simple YES / NO response to the question “Are you in favour of the development and opening of Charfield Railway Station and associated car park and other works?“.

There will be a pre-paid envelope included with our letter. For clarity, the result will not be binding but will give us guidance as to how Charfield itself feels toward the opportunities and challenges a new build station will bring.

  1. Why a consultation in wotton. Wotton isn’t in South glos. We will have people from everywhere deciding on what happens in Charfield.

    1. Dear Mr. Burley – Thank you for contacting Charfield Parish Council. The contents of your message have been noted and will be passed on to Parish Councillors. Paula Evans, Clerk to Charfield Parish Council.
