Charfield Civil Act of Remembrance 2020
It is inevitable now that the Covid19 pandemic will impact significantly on our annual Remembrance Observance. The situation changes almost daily, and there is no way to anticipate the restrictions that might be in place by November.
Your Parish Council, that facilitates the Civil Act of Remembrance, has therefore put a tentative plan together that allows for the actual laying of wreaths and the two minute silence but does not include a public attendance or procession. This is of course subject to changes right up to the event.
The road closure has been applied for as is customary. We will close the Wotton Road between Little Bristol Lane and Manor Lane for a maximum period of two hours (but probably less).
An additional barrier will be placed at the east end of the primary school frontage, and no member of the public will be permitted closer to the war memorial than that. We hope and trust that our parishioners will, if they decide to attend, adhere to social distancing and that they will ALL wear face masks. We will endeavour to erect our PA system in such a way that the Civil Act of Remembrance can be heard.
We do not invite parishioners to attend, but instead will seek to LiveStream the Civil Act of Remembrance via social media (details to be determined).Your cooperation is required, in order to protect not only the vulnerable people laying the wreaths and making the Observance, but also yourselves and your families.
This is not a time to endanger each other, but to recognise those who themselves went into danger for our safety.
