As usual Charfield Parish will be paying their respects and commemorating Remembrance Day on Sunday 11th November 2018. The Civil Act of Remembrance will take the customary format – assembling in the Memorial Hall car park in readiness for the Procession to set off at 10.45am to walk to the War Memorial. A copy of the Order of Service can be downloaded below. Refreshments will be available in the Memorial Hall before the Procession with all proceeds being donated to the RBL Poppy Appeal – all the more reason to enjoy a hot cup of tea and a buttie on a cold (and possibly wet) November morning!
Also as usual, the Wotton Road will be closed between its junctions with Little Bristol Lane and Manor Lane in order to facilitate the Procession. Although the two hour road closure has been approved for 10.30am through to 12.30pm, in practice we aim to close the road around 10.40am and re-open at the end of the outdoor service – usually around 11.20am in order to cause the minimum inconvenience. (The closure doesn’t apply to emergency vehicles). So, please don’t get frustrated, we only do this once a year!
You will see in the Order of Service the list of Parish Organisations that will be laying a Wreath, but if there is anyone else who wishes to lay a Wreath please can you contact me – thanks.
So to all Charfield residents – old and new – please come along and join with us in commemorating the 100th anniversary of end of WWI – fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us.
